CMA President's Message

It is my pleasure to introduce you to the Certified Hospitality Finance and Management Accounting Qualification (CHFMA) professional programme conducted by CMA.

This programme was introduced to meet the need for a Professional qualification in Finance and Management Accounting for the Hospitality industry and to conduct a Certification Programme termed the "Certified Hospitality Finance and Management Accountant" ("CHFMA") Programme.

This programme started jointly with SLITHM will from 18th August 2024 be conducted by CMA Sri Lanka the National Professional Management Accounting body in Sri Lanka incorporated by an act of parliament and a member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) the global body for the Accounting profession.

The CHFMA professional programme for the Hospitality industry will be conducted for all those currently employed in the Hospitality industry at different levels in the Finance, Accounting and Management Accounting sector and others who wish to join the Hospitality industry and they will be provided the opportunity to obtain a professional qualification specializing in the Hospitality industry to develop the knowledge and skills of those in the Accounting, Costing, Management and allied fields. This will help the Hospitality industry in its rapid growth and development to build a sustainable pool of qualified Accountants, Audit and Finance staff required for the industry.

The course syllabus consists of Foundation, Certificate, Diploma and Professional Stage qualifications and CHFMA membership requires completion of CHFMA examinations and a three-year practical experience requirement as per the Practical Training Guide applicable to the Hospitality industry. The Foundation Course will be for beginners, the Certificate course for those in the industry, moving on to the Diploma and Professional levels. The ultimate aim of this programme will be to produce specialized Accounting, Finance and Cost & Management Accounting professionals for the Hospitality industry.

We wish to thank the Finance and Accountancy specialists in the Hospitality industry who were associated with this project and the Course Director Mr. Sunil Peiris who was the Senior VP/ Sector Financial Controller of Cinnamon Hotel and Resorts. We also value the support given by the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM), the Ministries of Tourism and Trade and the National Human Resource Development Council (NHRDC) and Senior Director Examinations CMA and their senior management who have rendered support to accomplish this ambitious task.
