Structure

Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala’s knowledge and experience speaks for itself. He is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, Fellow Member of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka, and Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants of UK.

He has served as both Chairman and Managing Director of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka, Former Chairman of People’s Bank, People’s Merchant Bank and Pan Asia Bank  and Former Chairman of State Mining and Mineral Development Corporation and the Ceylon Leather Products Corporation.

He is a Past President of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA), Organization of Professional Accountants of Sri Lanka (OPA) and Founder Past President of Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka (AAT).

As the President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka was signatory to the formation of SAFA in New Delhi in 1984 and was elected as the first Vice President of SAFA.

Currently he is the President of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka and Director of Richard  Pieris & Company PLC, Gestetner (Ceylon ) PLC, Lake House & Publishers PLC, Abans  Electricals PLC and Lanka  IOC PLC. He is also Committee Member of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and Board Member of the South Asian Federation of Accountant (SAFA).

He was also instrumental in pioneering Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka (AAT) and Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA-Sri Lanka) and the Founder President of these Institutes.

He has also presented several papers at international conference including Confederation of Asian & Pacific Accountants (CAPA) Conference held in Seoul, Korea in 1989 and Commonwealth Workshop of Corporate Governance held in Maldives in 2007.

Mr. H.M. Hennayake Bandara was appointed to the CMA Council in April 2013. He is the General Manager/CEO of the National Savings Bank. Hennayake has extensive experience in the banking and financial sector and he is the immediate past President of the Association of Professional Bankers of Sri Lanka (APB). He is also a former President of the Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka (AATSL).

He currently serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of the World Savings Banks Institute, a Board Member of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka and Director of NSB Fund Management Co. Ltd. He had been a Director of the Sri Lanka Banks’ Association and the Financial Ombudsman of Sri Lanka (Guarantee) Ltd.

In addition, Hennayake had been a Council Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education, Board Member of Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board, and a technical advisor and Committee Member of the Professional Accountants in Business of the South Asian Federation of Accountants.

He was a member of the Expert Group appointed by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka as per the Cabinet decision, to provide expertise to Registered Finance Companies and Specialized Leasing Companies in respect of the implementation of the “Stimulus Package for Banking, Finance & Leasing Industry”.

He is a recipient of the award for “Excellence in Business Management’ awarded by the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA).

Hennayake holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Special) degree from University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka and the Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka. He also holds a higher national diploma in accountancy from the Technical College, Sri Lanka.

Mr. Adrian Perera was appointed to the CMA Council in April 2013. He is the Chief Executive Officer at Lanka Rating Agency Limited.

Adrian is a Fellow member of the Charted Institute of Management Accountant(UK),a Fellow Member of ACCA UK, Associate Member of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka, Fellow Member of the Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka and he has a MBA from University of Sri Jayewardenepura Colombo. He has over 21 years of experience in Banking, Treasury, Finance, IT and General Management in the Banking ,Finance and manufacturing sectors.

He has attended training programs conducted in Sri Lanka and overseas extensively.

Mr. M. Ruchira Asanka Perera was appointed to the CMA Council in April 2013. He is the Financial Controller of Hi Fashion Holdings (Pvt) Ltd. Ruchira is also a senior lecturer in Accounting and Finance and a key resource person of various Institutes for local and foreign professional accounting courses. He has also served as a visiting lecturer of the Department of Accounting in the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

Ruchira has started his career as a Management Trainee at Richard Pieris and Company, a highly successful diversified business conglomerates based in Sri Lanka. He soon moved on to become the Group Financial Analyst at Richard Pieris and was responsible for corporate planning and Financial Analysis of all business units within the group. He then Joined CamoplastSolideal, one of the largest solid tire manufacturers in the world, then known as Solideal Loadstar in the capacity of Group Management Accountant, responsible for Strategic Planning and Management Accounting functions in both Sri Lanka and overseas operations.

Ruchira takes pride in initiating and implementing successfully various Business models such as Balanced Scorecard (BSC), Key Performance Indicators and Activity Based Costing (ABC) in the organizations he has worked so far.

Ruchira has been conducting lectures for various Management Accounting and Finance subjects to prepare students for the examinations of the Institute for the past 8 years. He has contributed in developing e learning materials for Management Accounting Fundamentals and Strategic Management Accounting subjects when the Institute launched its e learning program in 2010. In addition to that he has conducted revision programs of the Institute for several years. He is currently conducting video lectures for foundation level at the Institute.

Ruchira is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka and is also a Chartered Management Accountant, UK.

His academic feats include a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM), affiliated to the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. He is a founder Member of the Commonwealth Association of Accountants.

Prof. Mangala Fonseka, Professor in Accounting, Department of Accounting, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences, and Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Colombo. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the Postgraduate Institute of Management of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura for his work on Sophistication of Management Accounting Systems in Public Listed Companies in Sri Lanka. He is a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK, and the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka.

Prof. Fonseka has always shown a keen interest in the twin areas of quality and productivity. He served as Hon. Treasurer and the Editor of Sri Lanka Quality Circles Association and Hon. Treasurer of the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Quality and Productivity. 

A keen researcher in the field of Management Accounting Practice in Sri Lanka, he has published widely in this area of study. Prof. Fonseka has also authored and co-authored a number of text books that are popular among postgraduate level students of Management Studies.  He held senior positions in a number of private and public sector organizations prior to joining the University system. He has served as the Head, Department of Accounting of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. He has also worked closely with a number of professional accounting bodies and is currently Member of the Governing Councils of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka and the National Institute of Business Management. At present, Prof. Fonseka serves as Director, Postgraduate Institute of Management, Colombo 8.

Director, Macroprudential Surveillance Department, Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Colombo 01, Sri Lanka

23 years of experience in Banking and Financial Services Industry. Served in the Central Bank Sri Lanka as a Bank Examiner, Head of Treasury/Chief Dealer, Deputy Director, Additional Director of Bank Supervision, Superintendent of Public Debt, and currently as the Director, Macroprudential Surveillance Department.

Holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) Finance from the American University, Washington DC and Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Business Administration (Hons.) degree from the University of Sri Jayawardenapura.

Certified Financial Services Auditor of the Institute of Internal Auditors of USA, Associate Member (ACA) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, Fellow Member of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka.

Former member of the Governing Councils of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka.

Mr Manil Jayesinghe is a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (UK) , Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and a member of The Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy.

Head Of Assurance/Senior Partner, Professional Practice Director, in charge of Banking and Financial Services practice of Ernst & Young, Sri Lanka, counting over 30 years of extensive experience.

At present :-

• Serving as a Council Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Chairman of the Examination Committee, Alternate Chairman of the Statutory Accounting Standards Committee, Member of the Statutory Auditing Committeeand servesin many other committees.
• Memberof the Board ofInternational Accounting Education Standards Board of International Federation of Accountants
• Consultant to the Audit Committees of the Listed Companies.

Has been a presenter at the seminars conducted by CA Sri Lanka for Auditing and Accounting Standards, (SLAS,IFRS,SLAuS,ISA), Judge of Corporate Governance Report for the Annual Reports Awards Competition. Presented papers at the CA Sri Lanka Annual Conference in addition to being a panelist.

Other involvements include being a past member of the board of CIMA Sri Lanka, Chairman of the Technical Committee and the Accounting Standards Study Group, presenter of IFRS Programmes, judge of CIMA Technical paper competition and CIMA Business Case Awards. Served on several listed company boards as a director.

J.M.U.B Jayasekera, presently serve as the President of AAT Sri Lanka, served its Council for 22 years, and served Councils of CA Sri Lanka (8 years), Open University and Buddhist & Pali University.

Graduated in BSc. Mgt. University of Sri Jayewardenepura, is a Fellow Member Institute of Chartered Accountants, Association of Accounting Technicians, Institute of Public Finance and Development Accountancy and Society of Certified Management Accountants. 45 years of his experience includes Chairman - CTB Ekala Work Shop, Vice Chairman - Land Reclamation & Development Company, Chief Accountant - Freedom from Hunger Campaign Board and Government Accountant in the Department of Agriculture.

Presently he is the Chairman of JMC Jayasekera Management Centre leading education Institute and a Practicing Chartered Accountant. He served as a Lecturer in University of Sri Jayewardenepura, University of Colombo, CA Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA) and Training Institutes of Central Bank and Bank of Ceylon. He is a well-known Speaker and Trainer.

He is a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) and the Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka (AAT). He is the Vice President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka from 2014. He has also served as a Council Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka from 2006 - 2013 and Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka during 2004-2007.

He is the present Chairman of the Operational Review Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and Chairman of Improvement in Transparency, Accountability & Governance Committee (ITAG) of South Asian Federation of Accountants. He has served as the Chairman of the National Conference Committee (2012 & 2013), Annual Report Awards Committee (2008 & 2011), Examinations Committee (2010-2011) and Training and Student Development Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (2006-2009). He was the Treasurer of the Organization of Professional Association of Sri Lanka (2009-2010). He is also a Committee Member of the IFRS Implementation Task Force (Urgent Issues Task Force - UITF) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka.

Mr. Ismail is Managing Partner in Charge of Taxation/Business Advisory Services of SJMS Associates an Independent Correspondant firm to Deloitte Touche Thmatsu, based in the Colombo office and currently he is the Vice President of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka.

Basheer Ismail commenced his professional career in 1977 and has been a Partner of the firm since 1984 providing Audit and Assurance Services and Taxation/ Business Advisory Services. He is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, a Fellow Member of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants and a Fellow Member of the Institute of Certified Professional Managers. He has considerable experience in providing tax advice, tax planning and compliance in relation to both direct and indirect taxes.

Dr. Senaka Kelum Gamage is the Head of Department of Accounting, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce in University of Sri Jayewardenapura.

He is a Senate Member of the University and also he is the Academic Syndicate Member of the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technical Education. Dr.Senaka is the Quality Assurance Specialist in Higher Education under the Ministry of Higher Education.

Mr.R.A.Ananda Jayalath was appointed to the Head Superintendent of the Employees Provident Fund Department of the Central bank of Sri Lanka. Prior to the present assignment, held the positions of Director/Domestic Operations Department of the Central Bank, responsible for implementation of monetary policy covering open market operations and banking services, In Additional Head of the International Operations Department, responsible for managing the foreign exchange reserves of the Bank and its Deputy Director, Chief Dealer, Head of Risk Management, Senior Dealer (Money and Capital Markets), Bank Examiner, Economist and Internal Auditor, since 1990.

He has played number of different roles in several internal and external committees/forums on finance, reserve management, securities financing, risk management and other related fields, since joining the Central Bank.

He worked functioned as a trainer and an external resource person in the subjects of finance, accounting, auditing and budgeting, economics, treasury management and financial instruments academic/training programs conducted by number of training organizations, professional associations and universities.

Mr. H.A. Wehalle qualified as Chartered Accountant in June 1969. He has had considerable experience in the fields of financial management and lecturing in accountancy in Sri Lanka and overseas.

He retired as the Director/General Manager of Peoples Merchant Bank Ltd. in 2001 and later as Executive Director of The Society of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka. He is presently the Hony. Secretary of the Society and is also an active member of the National Chamber of Commerce, functioning as its Hony. Treasurer

Mr. Satarasinghe was a Member of the Frist Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka, Chairman of its Taxation Committee, and a Member of the Income Tax Board of Revenue.

Mr. Satarasinghe was for many years Chairman and Managing Director of Brooke Bond Ceylon Ltd, Vice Chairman of the Employers Federation of Ceylon and was on the Boards of the Bank of Ceylon and Insurance Corporation of Sri Lanka. He was also an Advisor to the Ministry of Plantation Industries and the Peoples Merchant Bank.

Mr. Fred. H. Puvimanasinghe is a member of the council of the Society from its inauguration over 5 years ago and continues to serve its council at this date. He is the chairman of the Society s Examination Committee.

He previously served as a Council member for many years of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka wherein he was also the Chairman of its Examination Committee during this entire period.

He was a lecturer at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka continuously for a period of nearly 35 years. He has represented the Chartered Institute at several CAPA Conferences and SAFA meetings. He has also presented papers at some of these conferences.

He heads a Firm of Chartered Accountants in public practice in which capacity he has functioned for the past 35 years. He was formerly a member of the Public Service Commission (S.S.D.B.) for almost 2 years and is a Director of a Public Quoted Company and Private Company.

Mr. Thirunavukarasu Someswaran, Senior Partner of SJMS Associates is a Member of the Governing Council of the Society of Certified Management Accountants.

He is also serving as secretary of Ashoka Innovators for the Public, Director of Equality Based Community Support and Training, Chairman of Center for the Advancement of Resource Mobilization, Chairman of Neelan Thiruchelvam Trust, Director of South Asia Women s Fund, Treasurer of the European Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka, Executive Committee Member of the International Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka and the President of the Sri Lanka Indonesia Business Council and Member of the Peace and Reconciliation Committee under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

Mrs. Casie Chetty is a practicing Chartered Accountant. She has her own Practice. She has wide experience in the field of taxation having served as a Consulting Tax Manager at KPMG Ford Rhodes Thornton and Co. for many years. She is actively involved in numerous committees of Professional Institutes and Non Govenmental Organizations.

She is a Fellow of the Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka and Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Management Accountants, UK.
